Mission Statement

Oct. 6 2013

My theme for my portfolio stems from my passion of working with kids.  I have had many opportunities within the past few years to interact with children and I always find that their outlook on life is so refreshing.  With this in mind, I came up with the idea of using pictures of kids that I work with in the preschools at both my school and church.  Due to the fact that I didn't have immediate access to this photos, I decided to use pictures from my own childhood.  It didn't take long for me to realize that instead of focusing on other children, I should just focus on my younger days for the theme of this project.  I was always a very care-free child and I want to depict this along with my innocence in the pieces that I create.  Because these pieces are coming from a very personal source, I feel that my work will have a great value and significance.

While my first intentions for my portfolio were to show the different emotions of children, however, I knew this was too broad.  So, I decided to focus on my own childhood.  Using pictures from my childhood, I will try to depict the innocent and carefree nature that I had as a child.  I want to create a very realistic pieces that encompass color and texture.

Throughout the past couple of years I have had many experiences with interacting with children and I have found that their outlook on life is very refreshing.  They have such an innocent and simplistic take on everything which I have truly come to appreciate.  For these reasons, I have decided that the theme of my portfolio will be on the perspective of children.  I am both scared and excited to take on this theme because I know that my subject matter will be hard to depict, but I am up for the challenge.  The first few pieces that I am working on are based off of pictures from my own childhood.  From there, I am hoping to capture different children and their various emotions.
